Cary - Monthly Belly Dance Jam in Cary. Calling all belly dancers throughout the Triangle area! You are invited to a monthly belly dance jam in Cary the second Friday of every month to celebrate the ancient art of Middle Eastern dance. Whether you're a first-timer, a student, a performer, or a seasoned teacher, this is your chance to dance for the sheer pleasure of dancing in a non-structured and supportive environment. You can try out steps you've learned in a class or experiment with developing your own new style. Dance in your own private corner or create a wild dance circle around you. We'll provide exciting music of various styles and genres, you provide the moves. Fun dance attire encouraged but not required. Drummers are most welcome. Let's shimmy our hearts out! Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The first Belly Dance jam will be held on July 11, 2008, and the second Friday of every month after that. Durham - The Society for Creative Anachronisms, recreates the middle ages as it should have been, including the arts & martial activities. The SCA hosts open drumming and belly dancing on the 4th Tuesday of every month starting at 8pm! Durham - CommUNITY Rhythm Circle meets the second Saturday of every month at Music Explorium. Session one - 7:00 - 8:00 PM is family time for adults and kids under 9 years old. Session two - 8:00 - 9:30 PM - older kids and adults. It's on a donation basis with lots of drums to loan. We also use lots of wild hand percussion like wash boards, tone chimes, Hang drums and boomers. It's a very expressive and creative time. We have fun and even get wild at times. Why not? Raleigh - Raleigh Drum Circle. We're a community circle that meets the third Monday of each month at Lake Johnson Park on Mondays from 7-9pm. The admission fee is now $3 and covers the costs of keeping the park staff on site so the facility will be open for us. We're not very middle eastern-flavored, but are open to any and all styles of rhythm. Dancers are always welcome. Most of our music is community drumming with some traditional African rhythms thrown in along with whatever else anyone wants to play. Instrumentation ranges from tambourine to conga to djembe to krin to buffalo drum and everything in between. We usually meet on the deck by the lake if weather is permitting, or in the community building if it's icky. As we grow, we'll move out onto the lawn above the lake's beach area. Durham - Colorful Waves bellydance is holding auditions for our 2009 team.
COLORFUL WAVES BELLYDANCE TROUPE is looking for bright, talented, pleasant bellydancers to join us in our 2009 line-up.
To begin the audition process, please send a video/DVD of your performance and a brief written statement of why you are interested in joining us and how you believe that you can enhance the group, to Colorful Waves 5140 Revere Rd. Durham NC 27713 by July 31, 2008. Include contact information so we can let you know if you will move on to the interview round.
Applicants should be prepared to dedicate time to rehearsals (usually on Sundays around 2-5pm in Durham NC) Be willing to commit to several performances in and out of town and be a team player. No Divas need apply. No bad attitudes allowed. A postitive attitude, a good work ethic and a desire to have fun are all 'must have' qualities needed in members of group situations! You must have performance and bellydance skills and if you have other International dance disciplines under your hipbelt, it's considered a plus (hula, salsa, hooping, poi, folkloric line,etc) include that info in your written information.
Colorful Waves begins rehearsals in the fall and exclusively spends rehearsal time working on the dances we will do throughout the following year. Because it is a challenging line up, You are expected to attend every rehearsal unless there is a real emergency or you are contagious! More details will be discussed in your interview and you will be able to ask all your questions then too.
